headshot/experimental shoot

Margaret is an old friend of mine. She asked me to take some headshots for her and I asked that if after we had gotten that out of the way, if we could then do more of an artistic shoot. These are some photos from that day. All shot on film.

Wedding/elopement

Ryan and Robert have probably the coolest wedding I’ve ever been apart of, and they’re certainly some of the best wedding photos I’ve taken. It’s also not every wedding that you get to shoot it all on film.

They approached me about an elopement in D.C, said it would just be the three of us! They had done everything themselves; the food, decorations. Ryan had even made her own dress.

I just buzzed around, sort of staying out of their way. They said their words on a balcony and we took the metro around the city for some other photos. Even the Natural History Museum.

Family portrait

The Dodson Family wanted holiday cards done and asked me to take some portraits for them. Mrs. Dodson wanted more intimate, old school kind of photos. So we started with b&w film and went with a very un-constrasted look.

senior portrait

Sarah needed her Senior Portraits done and wanted to do a photoshoot that was surrounded by nature. Have something with more of a lightness to them. I think these photos achieve that. To me, they give off that feeling of perseverance.

Wedding

I’m a bit biased here, as Josh is the guitarist in my band, but these are so damn full of emotion. Their fathers giving hearty and emotional speeches & tightknit friends and family coming together for a night to send them off.

There was a moment where Josh looked at us and said “I don’t know if I’ll cry” and I knew right then he would lol. The guy made it back up the aisle and broke down. An incredibly sweet day, kinder people.

Family portrait

The Stephens asked me to do a family shoot for them and their newborn, but they wanted something a little more intimate. They asked me to drop by their house one evening and just photograph them throughout their day at home.

It was incredibly special and unique; you don’t often get the chance to shoot something like this. I felt like I truly got to capture their day, in a way only they can feel and know.

Wedding/videography

Sara & Cj had the most gorgeous wedding and the most beautiful venue. I was just chuffed to have been asked to capture it. Their love and the love from their family is very palpable. Plus, I believe this is some of my best videographic work.

Senior Portrait

I was approached to do a photo shoot with a group of three friends together on a walk. We went around the riverside trail in Danville and when I found a spot I wanted to shoot, we’d cycle the three girls in and out.

These are Georgia’s portraits from that day, you can see a group photo we shot at the end here as well. Cute idea for a shoot!

headshot/portrait

Hannah is one of my oldest friends, she came to me out of the blue one day saying she was coming back into town and was in need of some new headshots.

So we went to downtown Lynchburg and shot some of these on film. They feel pretty representative of her as a person.

maternity session

Leigh was expecting her second child, a boy. She used to teach me in High School actually and always said she would have me photograph all the major moments in her life. So here we are, after her wedding and now this. I think it turned out beautifully.

Senior Portraits

Photographing Mel was one of my very first portrait shoots out of school. I was armed with a Leica M8 and a Voigtlander Nokton 35mm f/1.4. We went out to this abandoned factory in South Boston, VA and they were wearing this beautiful blue dress to contrast the concrete. I’m very thankful for Mel for letting me take these.

Wedding

I’ve been taking photos of Hannah & Cameron ever since their engagement photos, and some even before then! Even back when I was taking photos for her family - this wedding feels like a beautiful bow on all of that.

Memorial Shoot

I was asked to shoot a memorial shoot in honor of their grandfather’s passing. I grew up around this family, it was incredibly touching and I was honored to even have been approached about it. I was very, very happy to have done it. Name is redacted for privacy.

Maternity

I went into this shoot knowing it could be heavy and did as much preparation as I could. I still believe it is some of my best work.

This shoot turned out to be one of the most important things in my life and is what really made me want to pursue photography. I have no false, grandiose idea of what this shoot could mean to anyone - but it did make Jesse happy at the time and she cried when I showed them to her.

That’s the feeling I chase all the time and it seldomly shows up, but when it does - I think of her and this shoot. Jesse passed away on July 9th, 2019. If you’d like to donate to cancer research, follow the link provided here. Thank you.
